Cycling in Falkirk

Falkirk's path and trails network has recently been voted as the No 1 place in the UK - and we know why! There is more than 400 miles of path network across the area, and so much of this is accessible bike.

Woodland trails for all abilities

Located just outside of Falkirk, these trails are fantastic for develop riders of all ages skills and fitness. The trails connect into the wider Falkirk path network, with links onto the Union Canal and John Muir Way. Canada Trail

An easy graded green route suitable for most cyclists. There are no steep hills, just gentle ups and downs which let you flow along.

Auchengean Trail

A slightly more challenging red route with a few gentle hills to work the heart and lungs and a few twisting drops for a bit more adrenaline.

Kilbean Trail

The Kilbean red/blue trail is accessed via the John Muir Way link path and involves a steady climb followed by an exciting steep descent.

Longer routes taking in unique attractions

The Forth, Clyde and Union canals offer the chance to cycle right across the central belt traffic free. There are some great stops along the way, least of all two world renowned attractions right on our doorstep: the Falkirk wheel and the Kelpies.

Forth and Clyde Canal

Stretching from the Kelpies, through Falkirk and out towards the Campsies, the Forth and Clyde Canal terminates at Bowling where it joins the River Clyde. From here, you can join the NCN and cycle onwards to Loch Lomond.

Union Canal

Starting at the top of the Falkirk Wheel, this passes through Linlithgow and Broxburn on its way to the heart of Edinburgh at Fountainbridge.

Falkirk Wheel and Kelpies

They mark each end of the Forth Canal and are both world 1sts! The only rotating boat lift in the world in the form of the Falkirk Wheel and the worlds tallest horse statues at the Kelpies.

The canal towpath can be narrow in some places, especially in the Summer months when the vegetation is high, so you might need to cycle in single file at times!
